What happens when a stock stops trading, and you need to take a tax loss? I have a loss on my account (that belongs to someone else, and which I plan to give the tax benefit), do you know whether I can still claim the whole value for the loss?

You should consider yourself lucky for being able to take this tax loss. The market has been so bad, that many couldn't take the loss because it wont offset any gains --as they had no gains.
