To all S3 believers. Hi, my name is Bill and I am new to this thread. First of all, many thanks to all of you who have made enormous contribution and insights to this thread to make it very enjoyable to read. I am trying to be the voice of reason, and figure out the recent stock performance of S3. I was involved in an academic project last summer and interviewed over 20 high-tech silicon valley firms. S3 was one of them, and I had the pleasure of personally meeting with Mr. Gary Johnson, the head of HR and the head of engineering. I was extremely impressed by the top management at S3. They were certainly the most impressive bunch I met during the whole summer. I believe the key success factors for S3 are as follows: 1)Strong management insight and entreprenuerial risk taking willingness to become first mover in the 3D market when it was preceived to be a small and unattractive market 2)Ability through strong marketing and aggressive R&D to achieve fast leadership in the 3D market 3)Build sustainable competitive advantage through innovative human resources practices to preserve their first mover advantage in the 3D market.
