Falling snow and falling green leaves! kare11.com From St Paul Minneapolis You may have noticed trees in the Twin Cities Metro area over the weekend dropping all of the green leaves in less than 24 hours. This type of tree is called an Ash Tree and makes up about 30% of the trees in the Metro area. During a typical Fall the warm days and cool nights of September lead to a fast but very vivid golden yellow leaf change on the Ash Tree that happens the first week of October and the leaves fall within 24 to 48 hours of changing but this year the warm weather in September and the heavy rain in early October prevented the leaves from changing from green and once the cold weather hit Friday night the stems on the Ash Trees begain breaking and the leaves fell quickly to the ground.
