Finaid.com says annual education inflation is about 8% per year. In 12 years the in-state total cost of attendance at UMass Amherst will be $179,183 for tuition alone. Crazy.

In addition to the out-of-pocket cost you need to consider the lost opportunity cost. Four years of not working while going to school easily could equal $160,000 - $200,000.

The world is always going to need plumbers and electricians. 4-year college isn’t the answer for everyone.
