ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb 5, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
VSE Corporation
(Nasdaq: VSEC) reported today that it has been awarded a U.S. Navy delivery
order with a potential value of $99.9 million for reactivation of four KIDD
class DDGs for the Taiwan Navy. The delivery order requires VSE to provide
management, engineering, logistics, industrial production and other services
necessary to accomplish repairs and alterations to reactivate the ships. The
reactivations will be performed on a staggered schedule and are expected to be
completed in March 2007.
Work will be performed by the BAV Division of VSE, and by the BAV team of
subcontractors, under BAV's ten-year, $1.1 billion Navy contract to support
the reactivation and transfer of ex-U.S. Navy ships to foreign navies.
VSE's BAV Division is under the direction of Jim Knowlton, Executive Vice
President and Director of VSE's International Group. "As reported earlier, we
are off to a fast start on the KIDD class reactivation project," said Mr.
Knowlton. "BAV and its team of subcontractors are focused on demonstrating
our ability to provide outstanding worldwide technical service to foreign
customers in support of the U.S. Navy's Security Assistance Directorate. The
transfer of the KIDD class DDGs to the Taiwan Navy is a multi-year effort
including towing, cold ship reactivation in a U.S. shipyard, logistics,
training, crew support, and follow-on logistics and technical support after
the transfers are completed."
