Now there's a 'statistical' title for you.
Aber Resources just issued a press release...and what a bombshell it was. It
ranks right up there with the "In the News", or "Most Active Conference" blurbs
that Stockwatch issues. They just appointed a new director!!!
Yawn.
Or...maybe not? Sometimes the significance of an event is only apparent by
hindsight. Any of you out there who like to play the guessing games have an
opinion? :-)
FYI...Aber appointed "Donald MacDonald" to it's board. What 'expertise' does
this individual bring to the table, and what are its implications for Aber's
involvement in diamond mining and exploration? Specifically...how does this tie
in with Winspear? (This *is* a Winspear thread after all.)
My opinion is appointments like this are done for good reason. The question
is...what is that reason?

Mr. Kenneth Hanna reports The company has appointed the Honourable
Donald S. Macdonald, P.C., C.C., to the board of directors.
Mr. Macdonald was a member of Parliament between 1962 and 1978 and a
member of the cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau from 1968 to 1977.
Mr. Macdonald held, in succession, the portfolios of president of the Privy
Council, Minister of National Defence, Minister of Energy, Mines & Resources
and Minister of Finance. From 1978 to 1988, Mr. Macdonald was a partner in
the law firm McCarthy & McCarthy, in Toronto. During that period he served
as chairman of the Royal Commission on the economic union and development
prospects for Canada, also known as the Macdonald Commission. Between
1988 and 1991 he was High Commissioner for Canada to Britain. In 1995/96
he served as chairman of the advisory committee on competition in Ontario's
electricity system.
Mr. Macdonald is chairman of Siemens Canada, chairman of Celanese Canada
Inc., and chairman of the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships. He
is also a director of a number of other commercial corporations in Canada and
the U.S. He is a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and a
Companion of the Order of Canada.
