The trouble with paying ANYONE including Microsquash for software is they can stop supporting it just when you need it... I had that happen decades ago... not worth the trouble to learn new stuff each time so as long as xcopy works to copy my files, I'll use it. Only trouble I have is some classical music CDs are too long when I rip them so I have to shorten the names to backup the rips. I had my office PC which was a laptop crash a year ago when I took it (5 yr old Dell I paid a fortune for to get the graphics) to Maui for a working vacation... work in the AM and windsurf in the PM... It died on the plane but lucky for me I had every file and email backed up on my flash drive in my pocket. Messed around far too long trying to get it working then opted to get a new laptop at Costco. Had that up and running in hours and borrowed some Office software to run my investment spreadsheets and newsletter files on Word until I got home and reloaded those... So... you can probably spend an infinite amount of time trying to get the perfect mirror only to have the failure be something new... so having my data is key and I have multiple redundancy with hourly on 3 external drives, weekly on my c-drive and monthly on a hard drive I keep outside the house. Next is to get a second small drive rotate monthly with my safe deposit box or get a 32G SD for my smartphone so I can put my most important files there once a week for added backups.
