We have entered the Trump era of "Sophie's Choice." 66 children a day are being separated from their mothers at the border because of the Trump policies. A civilized society would not do that. But Trump is the barbarian roaming the perimeters of civilization looking to bring it down that Will Durant warned us about. These poor women are escaping untold horrors and violence, traversing hundreds of miles often filled with danger, only to get to the US border looking for safety and have their children taken away from them by border guards on orders from Trump and Sessions. This is the ugly American on steroids. But should we really blame Trump, or should we blame the people who put him in power, and sustain his power?
