Back in November I bought shares in Both Ballard and Astris. I put 10 times as much money into Ballard as into Astris because I realized that Astris was highly speculative as compared to Ballard. Ballard stock has done very well(up 60%); Astris stock has done badly(down 60%).

I talked to one of people on the fuel cell project that I am involved in at Humboldt State about Astris. He feels that Astris is targeting a solid niche market. Their technical approach of an alkaline fuel cell is feasible. It is unclear whether they will succeed technically or financially.

Astris stock is highly speculative. I'm not going to sell the Astris stock that I own, but I won't buy any more. At this point, I feel that investing in ERC would be the most conservative thing to do in the fuel cell field considering the rapid runup in the price of Ballard stock and the stable price of ERC stock. I agree with Sid that fuel cells for power generation will be profitable much sooner than for vehicles.

In the very long run I feel that fuel cells for vehicles will be a multi-billion dollar industry, but this will take many years. At this time, investing in any fuel cell stock is speculative.
