I dont understand why they have bid up the stock so much. They just
MET the expectations(low ones to be sure), have not defined a clear
path for earnings growth(accordng to them the $2 rate hike does NOT
help the bottom line). What justifies this current price?
Maybe I am being egotistical, but I refuse to cover my short after
these earnings!

AOL Profit Meets Analyst Targets;
Company Announces Stock Split

By REBECCA QUICK
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

America Online Inc. reported strong fiscal second-quarter earnings, meeting
analysts' expectations, as revenue rose 45% from growth in both subscriber
fees and other sources.

The company also announced a 2-for-1 stock split.

Net income at the nation's largest on-line service rose to $20.8 million in the
quarter ended Dec. 31. AOL posted a loss of $129.18 million in the
year-earlier quarter due in part to one-time charges and refunds it paid to
disgruntled customers.
