Power Generation Facility Ramping

Douglas combined cycle CC facilities ramp up and down quite well. Especially CC facilities with multiple gas turbines. There are many CC facilities in service that shutdown completely at night and start up in the morning.

Simple cycle peakers are justified for peak shaving at the extreme end of demand with limited operating hours expected annually.

I am not sure of the capabilities of Nuc's to vary output significantly, but coal plants can vary output to maintain dispatch. But CC plants are probably best suited for load following within a system.

But one thing for sure is that hydropower taken out of service will be replaced with NG burning turbines. Have you heard of any coal plants being built in the USA in the last few years? Several by IPP's maybe 5-10 years ago, but I am not aware of any very recently.
