yes, George Washington was a slave owner. He inherited enslaved people at a young age and continued to acquire more throughout his life, eventually owning over 300 enslaved individuals at Mount Vernon. While he did express some discomfort with slavery later in life and included a provision in his will to emancipate his enslaved people upon his wife's death, he remained a slave owner for his entire life.
