".whatever may have been said to Saddam it was certainly no where near what he did to his enemies.." Its that kind of revenge, retribution and retaliation based thinking that is at the base of so much of the disorder you see in Iraq right now. Its not a positive for American future hopes for Iraq that it manifest itself at the hanging of Saddam. How is it possible for the people of Iraq to "buy into" a centralized unity government when its institutions are biased and corrupt? We often hear stories of gunmen "dressed as Iraqi policemen" taking hostages. I didn't realize it but I recently discovered that these usually ARE Iraqi policemen acting in sectarian ways. The Bush Administration completely failed to understand how non-linear, non-western and tribal the Iraqi culture is. Its no wonder trying to impose western, neo-con type ideals on the Iraqi's have failed. The assumptions made about the takeover of Iraq, to begin with, were way off base.
