Over many years of investing, I found that the most profitable approach for me is very long-term dollar cost averaging. I purchase stock in good, steadily growing companies and add to my holdings in times of market panic. As you say, it is becoming more and more difficult to stick to this approach in these times of momentum investing. I seem to get caught up in the trading spirit.
