May's unemployment report will also weigh on the markets Friday. Economists expect the government to report that unemployment edged up to 6.1 percent in May from 6 percent in April, according to a consensus of forecasts compiled by Briefing.com.

A separate Labor Department survey of businesses is expected to show that payrolls grew by 75,000 last month after rising by 43,000 in April.
