Labor Stats Confound Mavens
10/03/03 08:37 AM EDT

Wrong data last month messed up the experts this month.
It might have been the rumored revision, though, too.

Because the mavens got the data wrong last month, the unexpected improvement in the labor statistics proved them wrong again.

Unemployment Revisions Rumored
10/02/03 10:33 AM EDT
There's a story on desks about the Bureau of Labor Statistics is doing a large benchmark revision.
Some believe Bush is pressuring the bureau to 'find' job growth.

There's a story going around trading desks that the Bureau of Labor Statistics is doing a large benchmark revision to its jobless statistics going back to March. It's said that the bureau is getting states' actual unemployment records to determine real job losses.

Conspiracy theorists think the Bush administration is exerting pressure on the bureau to find some job growth.

This is (coupled with McTeer's comments) a possible explanation for the schmeissing in bonds today.
