You would seem to have an accurate assessment of this unseemly situation. I wonder if these big brokerage firms hold a lot of the convertible issue (not a difficult question).

Remember, you gotta watch out for those shady penny stock promoters, and Prudential, Merrill Lynch, and Montgomery too.

It is situations like this which can prove both TA and FA enthusiasts correct. The TA people could've made a boatload of money on the way up. The FA people will, at least, stay away from a perilously overvalued stock. Hmm, TA wins this one...unless you have deep pockets, patience, timing, luck, etc. it seems tough to call the top.
