The only answer I can give is that possibly KOSS buys on the open market because that is how the board has authorized them to buy. I believe their press release announcing the buyback used the fairly standard phrase regarding purchases made "on the open market from time to time." It's possible that they would need board authorization to pursue a private transaction. Other than that, I couldn't offer an explanation.
