FiberNet extends integrated co-location services to KPN
June 14, 2005 New York, NY -- FiberNet Telecom Group, a provider of metro data services, has been selected by KPN, the Netherlands' largest telecom company, to distribute KPN's traffic to its destination partners in the U.S. According to a press release, KPN will cross-connect with leading carriers through a customized, virtual presence at FiberNet's 60 Hudson Street "Meet-Me-Room," an integrated co-location facility.
KPN cited the combination of FiberNet's facility, continuous on-site support, and access to multiple carriers as the primary reason for choosing FiberNet over other competitors for its business.
"Through this virtual point of presence, KPN will get immediate access to over 600 domestic and international carriers," says Jon A. DeLuca, president and CEO of FiberNet. "KPN will leverage our extensive network presence to get quick entry into its critical markets, and to support its mission-critical communication equipment."
Under the terms of the one-year agreement, FiberNet will allow KPN to interconnect with carriers residing on FiberNet's metro backbone network. According to the release, the move will extend KPN's transatlantic network across the U.S., and facilitate business development with other carriers, ISPs, and network service providers.
"FiberNet's peering capabilities will greatly reduce KPN's network cost per tributary, and help us deliver greater value to our customers," remarks Jan Louwes, vice president of sales and customer care at KPN. "The streamlined path that FiberNet provides between origin and our destinations reduces the costs of transit, gives us an enhanced uptime, and much better network performance - and we can pass these benefits on to our customers."
FiberNet says its 60 Hudson Street Meet-Me-Room collocation facility is widely utilized by such telecom industry customers as AT&T, Bell Canada, British Telecom, China Netcom, China Telecom, Level 3, SBC, Time Warner Telecom, and Verizon.
