Fathers of the Church--
The Apostles trained many people to assume the leadership of the Church after their death. The Church, through the Holy Spirit, has preserved many of these precious writings. The thoughts of these post Apostolic Christian leaders were shaped by the Apostles and the Holy Spirit. They provide us many insights into doctrinal disputes that we have today. Some of these disputes are apparent on the SI threads. Most modern protestants are totally ignorant of these precious early writings of the Church. This ignorance has caused Protestant denominations to each seek their own private interpretations of Scriptures. Each Protestant trusts himself as the final authority on what the Scriptures has to say. The early writings of the Fathers are a great help in understanding the Scriptures the way the Apostles and the early Christians understood them. On the other side of the coin are the Roman Cahtolics and the Orthodox. They both proclaim that these writings are important. Unfortunately, modern Catholics and Orthodox rarely read or use these early Christian writings. Consequently, chaos reigns in both the Catholic and Protestant Churches. May all the treasures of our Christian heritage be once more valued by true Christians everywhere. ----------------------- 2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
2Th 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. |
