I think the reason people slur about "Wolfowitz and Perle" is the unspoken assumption that they are carrying water for Israel while pretending to support the interests of the US. The deep meaning of the unspoken assumption is that the interests of Israel and the US are in some way antithetical, so Wolfowitz and Perle are actually acting against the interests of the US.

Bingo. I just heard Perle try to defend himself against this charge on TV this morning. Difficult to do, since there is no way for Perle to prove that he really believes that the US and Israel are fighting a common enemy and have many common interests.
