Norton SystemWorks [FIRST FILES FIRST - 01/05/2000]

"FIRST FILES FIRST

Different parts of your drive platter have different access speeds,
and Norton can provide optimum performance by strategically arranging
file types on the physical disk. For example, one outcome of Norton
Speed Disk optimization is to fix the size of your Windows swap file
and put it at the front (outer tracks) of your fastest disk.

You can also use Speed Disk to put other frequently accessed files
toward the front of your disk. This is a good location for frequently
accessed but seldom modified files such as the EXE and DLL files of
your most-used programs.

Select Norton Utilities from the Norton SystemWorks 2000 Integrator,
then select Improve Performance and click the Speed Disk button. In
the opening screen, click the Properties button, then select Options
and click the Customize button. Under the By Date tab, put a check in
the box next to Sort Files By Last Access Date.

You can measure different periods of time, the most frequent being
Day, by clicking the appropriate radio button. At the same time, Speed
Disk puts frequently modified files toward the end of the disk to
minimize fragmentation.

Click OK, then Save in the Options For Speed Disk dialog box. Speed
Disk will use the saved settings when optimizing that drive. You can
have a different set of settings for each drive."
