Conservatives told their followers to buy gold because President Obama was going to crash the economy. Never forget how long it takes to change the mind of a conservative. His party tells him what to think and when to unthink it.

Another case in point. The gop was 100% against any meeting between Obama and Kim and 100% in favor of one between Trump and Kim. What does a republican believe? He believes what his party tells him (cuz he's a moron).
