Dear Sharon, The King James version is nice and poetic, but for the authority of ancient manuscripts you need the Revised Standard Version. For a real treat amongst the Fathers of the faith try "the Imitation of Christ" by Thomas a Kempis-- 14th Century for the 21st Century !! Little Flowers of Saint Francis is quite a treat too. My favourite biblical verse is "seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run with patience the race that is set before us etc"
