Hardwood floors ...
I see from one of your earlier posts that you've decided to use slate ....
interesting material, and a flooring with which I've had NO experience ... *(one of few ....gggg)
I'd like to have a report from you on the installation, please.
In the past, I've laid multi thousand sq ft of hardwood for personal use, plus a few jobs for friends, and even a couple dozen for hire .....
the prices that I've encountered in NE Tx for hardwood .... planks, laminated planks, parquet, inlaid parquet, narrow strips, etc are currently in the buck to ten buck per sq ft range ....
with the predominant flooring used by most area builders being the laminated ply veneer type running in the general area of three bucks per sq ft.....
this stuff will last fine for say, ten years or so with moderate traffic, and will take ONE refinish job with a circular sander, maybeeeeeeee two, depending upon any 'dent damage' that has happened.
Here in NE Tx, there are practically NO houses built other than slab foundations ....
this precludes any nailing, so gluedown is the major method of installation.
anyone, as far as I can observe, who is "handy with power tools" can do a fine job of laying the flooring as long as they
a) don't get in a hurry
b) clean up as they go
c) leave a quarter inch gap around the perimeter for expansion
d) read the directions on the box the flooring came in
I've also laid multi thousand sq ft of other types of flooring --- ceramic, marble, glazed, non-glazed, cork, and even linoleum
btw, most folks haven't even seen real linoleum but just call a hard surface vinyl type stuff by that name.....
the last I laid was for a buddy of mine who had to order it from New Zealand, but when it arrived it had actually been made in England ....
it is made from linseed oil with gum, cork dust or wood flour impregnated with pigments and put onto a material like burlap for backing ......
