Some war enthusiasts, so-called neoconservatives like Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle, were Democrats who “came over [to the GOP] as a result of Vietnam in one form or another,” disgusted by their party’s mishandling of that war and the Cold War in general, as one old Republican lion, a veteran of the first Bush administration, said to me. From what I've read, laura, the neocons came to Bush because they failed in their attempts to push their evil agenda over on Clinton. LThese are not high-minded, righteous folks. They are low-life, self-serving oil-grubbing con artists.
