IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1997--The Computer Systems Division (CSD) of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS) once again captures the lead in technologically-advanced, yet user-friendly desktop computers with the next generation Infinia line, aimed at early adopters, families and multimedia enthusiasts.
"When combined with the blazing fast 12X CD-ROM drive, the advanced 33.6 fax/modem and Intel's Pentium processor with MMX Technology, the next generation Infinia is the ultimate home appliance for multimedia enthusiasts," said Ron Smith, vice president of marketing for Toshiba CSD.
Infinia 7161 and 7201: Raising the Bar for Interactive Desktop Computers
Building on Infinia's award-winning entrance into the desktop market, Toshiba is poised to offer even more advanced systems with the same Infinia ease-of-use for availability at the end of this month. The added multimedia capabilities of MMX technology result in up to 20 percent performance improvement over systems using standard Pentium processors.
Toshiba's InTouch Module and InTouch Remote remain the most intuitive personal interfaces on the market, featuring one-touch access to key functionality, such as phone answering and messaging, TV and FM radio tuning, CD-Audio play and Instant On through its intelligent sleep button. Infinia's InTouch Module conveniently attaches via the USB interface into the front panel of Toshiba's optional monitors, or can be disconnected from the monitor and placed on a surface alongside the unit.
A built-in TV/FM Radio and Video Capture card comes standard in the Infinia 7201 (optional in the Infinia 7161), giving users the freedom to tune into their favorite television show or listen to FM radio, directly from their computer. In addition, users can play full motion video clips or movies, or even capture images with their own camcorder (up to 30 fps) to create a family video album using Creative Wonders' Family Album Creator, which is pre-installed on all Infinia home PCs.
Combining Technologically Advanced Components in a Home PC
Toshiba's high level of vertical integration, with strengths in computing and consumer electronics technologies, provides the capabilities for the convergence of leading-edge technology that meets consumer demand.
The Infinia 7161 and 7201 once again demonstrate this convergence with standard 32MB of EDO RAM (maximum storage capacity of 128MB), a full duplex 16-bit SoundBlaster Pro compatible audio system with SRS 3D sound, standard wavetable MIDI audio and a quick 12X CD-ROM drive. Both feature a 64-bit S3 Inc. ViRGE DX 3D video processor with 2MB video RAM for smooth, high-quality video and strong multimedia performance. The systems also feature fast 166MHz and 200MHz Pentium processors with MMX technology and 256K Level-2 Cache, providing a robust multimedia platform for interactive multimedia gamers, Web crawlers and early adopters. The expansive hard disk drives in the new Infinia offer 2.38GB memory capacity in the 7161 and 3.0GB memory capacity in the 7201.
Families and gamers alike appreciate the crisp picture from Toshiba's optional color monitors, available in 17-inch (15.7-inch viewable area) and 15-inch (13.6-inch viewable area) models. Both come complete with one-touch tilt convenience and built-in high-fidelity five watt per channel stereo speakers. An integrated sub-woofer on the 17-inch monitor combined with the SRS 3D stereo sound and hardware wavetable bring true stereo quality sound to life.
It's Easy To Stay in Touch With Your Family and Friends With The New Infinia
One touch of the phone button located on the InTouch Module accesses both audio and video conferencing on the new Infinia. Connection with family and friends is as easy as dialing the area code and phone number either on screen, by using the numeric key pad on the key board or by the InTouch Remote. The "receive-only" video technology, standard on the new Infinia, is transformed to a "two-way" video conferencing solution with the addition of Toshiba's optional InTouch Video Phone for desktop computers, utilizing Intel ProShare Technology. With the Toshiba Video Phone, Infinia users can now stay in touch with friends and family or create a home office with professional video conferencing capabilities.
Toshiba's new InTouch Video Phone kit, available this spring, has a suggested retail price of $299. It features an NTSC color analog camera with a manual focus lens and 300,000 flicker-free pixels for video conferencing over standard POTS (plain old telephone service) lines.
The Toshiba video phone works in concert with the Toshiba's TV/FM Radio Video Capture PCI Card for a complete home video conferencing solution.
