Curlton: Can you give me your view on what WSTL's competitve advantage is? WSTL will eventually recover..... when? who really knows? It seems at this time the RBOCS are split into two camps.... DMT vs CAP. DMT camp - {GTE, Ameritech, Pacific Bell, and Southwestern Bell}, these companies stated that it was premature to consider adding additional line codes to the standard until it is clear what the market will provide with DTM-based solutions... this is from the T1e1.4 Working Group Interim Meeting. CAP- BA/NYX, seems to support CAP based solutions at the present time. I'am unclear which technology BA/NYX will choose for High Speed Access to the homes (ie) Cable Modems... Wireless Cable... xDSL technology. WSTL is in many many trials to date... all CAP based solutions... to provide proof-of-concept that xDSL works. Several months ago WSTL agreed to use MOT DMT chipset. Was this to cover all bases DMT/ CAP or 'i'am speculating' GTE had some influence on WSTL to have a DMT plan... thus MOT agreement. I 'believed' WSTL way ahead of many of the vendors in the ADSL area, because of this "MATURE" chipset that GlobalSpan is pushing. Now 'i believe' the CAP chipset is not as 'MATURE' as 'i believed' 10 days ago. Finally if Mass deployment waits for DMT products... want makes the WSTL product way ahead of every other DMT vendor in the industry. Will WSTL get some of the orders for future DMT.... I think they will, but 'i believe' not as many orders if DMT wins. I'am waiting to get back into WSTL.... i just need to get this CAP vs DMT issue settled in my own head.
