Jerry and all - Thought I'd drop in and say Hi. So you are into Y2K on this thread. Makes sense. A subject that I have been reading up on, as I work in the field of IT. I wrote a long essay 30 minutes ago, only to see the server go down. So, this time, I simply refer you to www.garynorth.com. This will send a good chill down your spine, I do believe, if you follow all the links (although I haven't). The reason I say that is that I received a 24 page newsletter from this guy recently titled " A bank run like no other will bankrupt banks all over the world in 1999". Found it convincing. Obviously, this guy has something to sell. But I must say he is pretty close to the facts, IMO, on the technical side of things and his extrapolations / prognostications have a chance of coming true, IMO. Just today I read an AP article where the IRS commissioner, Charles Rossotti, told a House panel that Y2K computer problems are creating a "dangerous and risky situation". Article goes on to state that the same problems exist at the Dept Of Health and Human Services (Medicare), where only 40% of its systems have been fixed. Anyway, our modern infrastructure is at risk, it's real and it could be very dicey, IMO. We would be wise to pay close attention. |
