I really feel sorry for all of those folks. They literally "burned up" their entire resource base many years ago.

Never been to Haiti but have been to the DR. They say the contrast crossing the border is stark... same island and half is lush and half is barren. Proof positive that "regulation" works, and that run away exploitation of resources doesn't work.

What the anti-government anti-regulation people refuse to see is the almost complete correlation between strong central government and successful, wealthy countries. And the absolute correlation between weak central governments and poor countries.
