Though a Republican from Utah, Chris Cannon voted against the Goodlatte bill two summers ago for civil libertarian reasons. He must be a highly principled guy. Doubtlesshis intent with this amendment is to bring the entire bill down because of its hypocritical carve outs.

Also Pat Robertson has been forced by the outcry to sell his race horse.

WASHINGTON, DC – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: “United States Representative Chris Cannon (R-Utah) plans to offer an amendment that would strip horse racing’s exemption in a bill introduced by Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia) that bans Internet wagering during a meeting of the House Judiciary Committee this week.

”Known as the `Combatting Illegal Gambling Reform and Modernization Act,’ House bill 3215 would ban wagering over the Internet, but horse racing is currently excluded.

”The American Horse Council has notified its members of the possible mark-up of the bill by Cannon and is urging them to contact their representatives and offer their opposition to the bill…”>>
