I didn't read the article but it seems a logical answer from LU. LU did drop the Bay Network equipment from their distribution channel. I think LU is focusing on their core business and will not diversify into those arena as when they were part of ATT. CISCO/Alcatel....that would be interesting...Cisco is more well known for their small to medium range equipment, they have establish a strong image and reputation worldwide but more importantly for Alcatel, they have a solid market share and distribution channel stateside. Nortel/Cisco...that one would surprise me. I think Nortel is more concerned about LU's momentum in the CPE equipment. Distribution channel for Nortel equipment is also completly different.
Both Alcatel and Nortel would gain by partnering with Cisco. I think Alcatel would be more prone to accommodate Cisco.
These are just my opinions....
