Moment! Just look to the the last empire that bit the dust the UK:
They kept losing their economic prominence and slowly and steadily returned to its natural size. With the US will happen the same albeit a bit more faster.

The US is a fat, very fat country. Fat countries, when under severe diet, just lose part of this fat to keep going.

If the economic screws turn on the US economy we will not notice these effects discussed in the previous postings.

The US economy will simply start cutting down the fat:

Stop satellite frenzy cuts costs by junking still in place Cold War infrastructure, like bases abroad, gunboats and useless satellites.

Stop subsidizing loss-making sector of the economy. These subsidies will hurt only the politicians that keep the electorates on a leash or in a korral somewhere.

All those luxuries that are afforded by a big economy which can hide lots of losing sectors.
