1000...GE Aviation to cut 1,000 salaried employees
Business Courier of Cincinnati

More than 1,000 white-collar workers at GE Aviation will lose their jobs in 2009, Reuters reported Thursday.

GE Aviation spokesman Rick Kennedy revealed the number of job cuts Thursday, according to the story. Kennedy added that no reductions were planned in GE Aviation’s manufacturing operations.

Evendale-based GE Aviation had said Jan. 9 that it planned to eliminate jobs because it expected commercial airlines to cut back on orders for new aircraft this year. GE Aviation employs 39,000 globally, including about 16,000 salaried. Kennedy said at the time that the company still has a substantial order backlog and few major order cancellations.
