Diverse Project Awards Totaling More Than $10 Million Won By Williams Industries' (Nasdaq - WMSI) Subsidiaries
MANASSAS, Va., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Increased demand for the specialty manufactured products and construction services provided by the subsidiaries of Williams Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: WMSI - news) has resulted in more than $10 million in new contract awards in the past 30 days, the company announced today. The steel erection component of the highly specialized renovation project at the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. is only one of several new projects awarded in the past few days.

While there are a variety of projects included in the new work, one of the most significant, a portion of the Route 288 By-Pass around Richmond, Virginia, involves two Williams Industries' subsidiaries. Williams Bridge Company of Manassas, Virginia and S.I.P., Inc. of Delaware will be providing nearly $7 million of custom fabricated products for the major bridge components in the initial stages of the Route 288 project, which has a total budget of more than $230 million and a 32-month schedule. Williams Bridge Company will fabricate a major portion of the structural steel in the initial project phase. S.I.P. will manufacture its Stay-In-Place metal bridge deck forms, which are high-strength, deep-corrugated, galvanized steel units designed to be placed between either structural steel or pre-stressed concrete bridge girders. Both companies intend to bid on subsequent phases of the project.

S.I.P. recently has been awarded contracts for its product on a variety of other projects, including: Route 58 in Clarksville, VA; Route 1 in Petersburg, VA; a project in Horry County in South Carolina; a project in Rowan County, North Carolina; materials for the N.J. Turnpike; and Route 80 in Bergen County, N.J.

One of the most interesting new projects, however, is the award Williams Steel Erection Company received for the steel erection component of the National Archives Building renovation. National Archives, which houses many of the nation's treasures, including the U.S. Constitution, is undergoing a massive renovation that includes ripping out much of the existing interior and putting in new steel floors to support the major collections contained in the facility.

While acknowledging that the project will be extremely challenging, Williams Steel President H. Arthur Williams said, ``Historically, we have performed this type of work very successfully. Therefore, Williams Steel tends to have a good reputation and competitive price when the company bids this type of work.''

Williams Industries' President and CEO Frank E. Williams, III, agreed, adding, ``I believe our subsidiaries' are extremely competitive in today's marketplace in large measure due to their experience and qualified personnel. I expect the Williams Industries' subsidiaries will continue to take advantage of our synergistic capabilities to provide value-added services for our increasingly diverse customer base.''
