Does a jump in price mean I should buy? Has something fundamental
changed with CheckFree or is it only up on hype? As I understand it,
their main product will let me pay bills electronically. Now, when I
get a bill, I write a check and am finished in a minute. It would be
a hassle to turn on the computer. When visiting my bank, I do see
customers there to pay bills. Home banking would certainly benefit
them. However, the reason they must go to the bank is that they don't
have enough money to maintain a checking account. I doubt they have
computers at home. However, I do have some technophile friends who
use Quicken every time they pay a bill - and they still write checks.
For these people, who have already gone to the trouble of turning on
their computer, home banking really makes sense. How many of these
hardcore technophiles are there? I believe CheckFree already has
750,000 home banking customers. Is there room for much more growth?
I just don't see the sustainable growth story on this one. Still,
someone is buying. What changed overnight?
