Attention Business Editors:

PARKER LAKE PROJECT UPDATE

CALGARY, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - COMAPLEX MINERALS CORP. (CMF-TSE) reports
drilling of the gravity anomaly associated with the Suluk gabbro on the Parker
Lake project intersected thick layered mafic intrusive rocks. Geochemically
anomalous nickel-copper values are associated with parts of the intrusive,
however the cause of the anomaly was not explained during the drilling. The
Parker Lake project is centered 100 kilometers west of Rankin Inlet and is a
joint venture between Comaplex (25%), Cumberland (50%), and Manson Creek
Resources Ltd. (25%).
Elsewhere on the Parker Lake project, high-grade surface gold values
associated with iron formation have been discovered over a strike length of
460 meters. Reconnaissance drilling in widely spaced (125 meters) holes,
intersected up to 7.6 grams per tonne gold over 0.76 meters. Further work is
warranted to evaluate the iron formation package hosting this gold occurrence.
Diamond exploration field studies on the project have yielded over 460
samples which are currently being analyzed for indicator minerals. Results
are expected late in the year.
Although the 1996 drill program did not intersect economic concentrations
of mineralization, the diversity of the mineral occurrences discovered to date
continues to be of interest. A compilation of the data will be conducted to
attempt to better understand the unique and complex geology to determine the
direction and extent of the 1997 program.
