FRANK McKENNA TO BECOME CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF ALPHANET TELECOM INC.

TORONTO, Feb. 18 /CNW/ - AlphaNet Telecom Inc. (''AlphaNet'') today
announced the election of Frank McKenna, former Premier of New Brunswick, as a Director of the Corporation effective January 15, 1998 and his appointment to the position of Chairman of the Board of the Corporation, effective February 19, 1998.
Mr. McKenna was well known for his job creation efforts during his term
as Premier of the Province of New Brunswick. He is also credited with the spectacular progress made by the public and private sectors of New Brunswick in the technology and telecommunications areas. Under his leadership and during his tenure, New Brunswick witnessed a rapid growth in the establishment of call centres and remote application sites. Frank McKenna is a graduate of St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Novia Scotia. He is a recipient of a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship in Law and studied law at the University of New Brunswick later carrying out post-graduate studies at Queen's University. Over the last several years, he has received a number of national awards including Economic Developer of the Year, and Canadian Advanced Technology Association's Award of Distinction for Leadership and a number of honorary doctor of law degrees.
Mr. McKenna recently joined the law firm of McInnes Cooper Robertson in
Moncton, New Brunswick. He also sits on the Board of a number of Canadian public companies.
