Hi Jeff,

Re: Split.
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Applied Materials late Thursday declared a 100% stock dividend.

The dividend is payable Oct. 13 to shareholders of record Sept. 25.

A stock dividend is payment of a corporate dividend in the form of stock rather than cash. From the corporate point of view, stock dividends conserve cash. For the stockholder, the advantage is that the additional stock isn't taxed until sold - unlike a cash dividend, which must be declared as income the year it is received.

Applied Materials announced the 100% stock dividend after the market closed Thursday.
