I do agree with you there are some good points. However, at some point, some world leader needs to step up. We have sat by idly in the past as mass killings occurred -- whether you're talking about the Holocaust or the Killing Fields of Cambodia -- it seems to me one of the countries who lead the world has some responsibility to step up and try to stop it.

For a period after WWII the United States was seen as that world leader. I'm not sure we are anymore, but who else will do it?

For a very long time I thought the best thing to do was to let regional problems be regional problems as long as we weren't directly threatened. But the world is a pretty small place these days and I question the moral sensibility of just letting one powerful side kill the weak side off. Even if a lot of them hate us.

For a long time I had the attitude if it wasn't within our borders, to hell with it. But the West *is* threatened by these guys. We can sit around and say "Bush this" or "Obama that", but at the end of the day we have to decide if we're going to allow those borders to be shifting. If this movement continues to spread it is going to be on us to resolve it so it makes sense to me to try to stop it earlier rather than later.
