Whoa !, Hold on there partner!
Before AMAT could split again there would have to be 2x additional
shares authorized during the next stockholders meeting. This means
that AMAT would have to double in size and sales again to warrant the additional stocks. It was only last year that there were layoffs and
the stock bottomed out at around $21. We have had nearly a 5x
increase in stock value in 9 months. There needs to be a rest
phase for a period of time before doubling in size occurs again,
otherwise it becomes uncontrolled growth. It is better to grow
modestly and in a controlled fashion, rather than to grow too quickly
and out of control.
In general companies that grow out of control also have expenses and losses that are out of control which wreaks havoc on the
stock and investors.
Target date for next stock split Fall 1999 or Spring 2000.
