Disappointing total returns for T

In 2016 I started a DGI portfolio with 54 companies which included T, continued to dollar cost average quarterly as well as dripping T. December of 2021 I noticed both T was in a negative total return (Price appreciation + Dividend) for the 5 year period. My general thought here was even with the juicy dividend the total return could not keep pace with an average inflation rate so T and a few others that were in a 5 year capital loss were sold out before the end of 2021.

The proceeds were folded back into the existing companies and 3 new positions with capital appreciate and higher dividend growth and 1 cef. I expect to take a hit in 2022 dividend income but hopefully the income growth will be better in the future.
