Atta Boy Tero. Keep up that strong wit.
Does a GPRS deal count without any commercial resources to back it up? Of course not, just ask MOT, LU, NT, and every company other than NOK & ERICY. I think a direct upgrade to WCDMA would be more appropriate, thanks to the QCOM.
The only question in my mind is if there is a real business case for WCDMA vs. CDMA2000 as a GSM overlay. Here are a few questions that might be relevant.
1) Will the small Euro operators opt for CDMA2000 vs. WCDMA since 1X doubles capacity? Since 3G services may increase the demand for capacity, maybe I should use my spectrum more efficiently. I would vote for 1X as it doubles capacity.
2) Do I want features like full motion video to run at 2.4 MBPS in a CDMA2000 system or 384 kbps in a WCDMA system? I would prefer 2.4 MBPS any day.
3) Do I want the higher radiation levels that may be present in a WCDMA system since the chip rate is higher? I would not.
4) Do I want to be restricted to buying my handsets from Nokia and Ericcson? I would like the opportunity to buy CDMA handsets (regardless of mode) from companies that have been making CDMA products for several years. Since NOK & ERICY are not compliant in that respect, I would not want to be buying their handsets at all. Samsung, Sanyo, Motorola, Kyocera, and Audiovox would be the customers from which I would want to buy my phones. |
