Korea-Spain Scalper Prices Skyrocket After Victory

After South Korea upset Italy to advance to the World Cup quarterfinals Tuesday, the prices of scalper’s tickets for the Kwangju (Gwangju) match between South Korea and Spain on Saturday shot up more than fivefold.
Scalpers were selling tickets for first-class seats worth 384,000 won ($300) at 2 million won or more on the internet. The price for a third-class seat also jumped to 700,000 won from an original face value of 160,000 won.

On Tuesday, minutes after the golden goal from Ahn Jung-Hwan gave South Korea a 2-1 win against Italy, some 200 Kwangju citizens rushed to Kwangju World Cup Stadium, hoping for a chance to buy any spare tickets.

``I spent the night at the stadium despite knowing that they don’t sell remaining tickets at the ticket windows... This is a rare chance in my life, so I will even try to buy tickets from a scalper if necessary," a soccer fan said.
