R, on any given day I prefer to be on the winning side of a trade whether it is a tulip or a solid company with strong fundamentals. My inability gauge the appetite for stocks has kept be on the sidelines and my funnymetal observation kept me on the bearish side. However, I have been playing a few stocks on the long side with the sole purpose of selling them to a greater fool. I don't give any fundamental crap on these issues I play. That said, being bearish is hard enough in this market. But, just going 100% long just before the ultimate reversal occurs (this time it looks to be as good as it can get) is something I do not want to do.

Believe it or not, psychologies change on certain critical dates. For individuals, birth days, the days of the death of beloved etc. etc. New Year is one such day certain things change. New Millennium? I believe there will be some dramatic shifts in investor/trader psychologies. Im not saying it will happen on January 3rd. Rather in the first trading week of Jan we can expect to see a complete rout. All it takes is an infusion of fear of losing large paper gains. It can be triggered by a very minor macro event. JMO. I am hopeful that this will be the case.

As with going long, I do believe there will be plenty of opportunities down the road.
