Because they tend to be zealots with extreme agendas like Creation Science, anti-abortion, pro prayer in public schools, etc etc that most people don't want. The religious right spends a lot of money and time trying to influence the GOP, and they exercise influence far beyond their actual numbers. Most of the really wackos on this thread, I would guess, are believers in the RR-GOP agenda.
