NHC Introduces New XPoint(TM) Remote Test Access Cross-Connect
MONTREAL, Jan. 10 /CNW/ - NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC - news), a leading provider of automated mainframe solutions for the copper-based telecommunications and Internet access markets, today announced the introduction of XPoint(TM) test access copper cross-connect product line. The first two scaleable products are the XPoint(TM) 128 and the XPoint(TM) 96 offering up to 128 ports and 96 ports respectively. XPoint(TM) will integrate with any third party remote test unit to enable incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) to remotely test their copper loops, significantly reducing the operational costs associated with the testing and deployment of POTS, T1/E1 and xDSL services. This solution will also generate increased revenues for service providers by improving the speed with which lines can be delivered.
The XPoint(TM) product line complements NHC's ControlPoint(TM) larger cross-connect product line as XPoint(TM) is designed for smaller, low cost per port, test access applications.
"Adding a scaleable and small cross-connect product gives NHC a new solution to address the growing ILEC demand for loop qualification. XPoint(TM) gives NHC a competitive edge by delivering a solution that can economically automate remote testing of copper loops. NHC understands, and is answering the ILECs' needs in a most cost effective manner, said Sylvain Abitbol, President & CEO of NHC Communications."
XPoint(TM) is placed in ILEC central offices and wire centers together with a remote test unit to complete an integrated end-to-end remote test solution. The XPoint(TM) line of products can be managed through test vendor and operational support system (OSS) vendor interfaces using telecommunications standard TL1 commands and will support SNMP and dial-up from NHC's CMS Remote.
NHC's new XPoint(TM) product line's high density fits 128 ports into a single rack unit space (1 RU). Up to 256 units can be cascaded together providing for a maximum of 32,768 copper lines to be tested from a single location. XPoint(TM) offers ILECs a scalable, low cost per port solution, for bulk line testing.
XPoint(TM) 128 and XPoint(TM) 96 are in field trials today and will be generally available in first quarter of calendar 2002.
