Hughes is Pushing Wave"Type" Data to it's 22"Dishes

Guess we're not the only ones bringing this type of
non-internet connected push technology to market.
Obviously, this does not "compete" with WaveTop,
but it proves the soundness of their appoach.

"" For a limited time only Hughes Network Systems is beta testing its newest DirecPC feature - Turbo NewsCast.
Turbo NewsCast is designed for avid newsgroup enthusiasts. With DirecPC's Turbo NewsCast service, you'll
anonymously get your favorite newsgroups broadcast directly to your PC every day. No more waiting for large
graphic files and lengthy discussion group digests. You get it all instantly without using your DirecPC "Surfer"
service hours.

The service is FREE and beta testers get a FREE PCI adapter card to test the service.

How it works:
DirecPC receives news group articles from our news feeds and broadcasts them over the satellite daily. The
Personal News Server running on your computer captures the newsgroups you have selected anonymously and
stores them on your hard drive. You will configure your news reader(s) to use the local host(127.0.0.1) as the
NNTP server. The news reader will recognize your computer as the server and receive the groups in the same
manner it would if you were on the Internet, but much quicker. You select how much hard drive space you want
to allocate to the articles and how long you want the articles to remain on the hard drive. You must be using
DirecPC release 1.6 to beta test.

If your computer is turned off or if PNS is not running then you will have missed the articles broadcast to that
point. You do have the option of connecting terrestrially and downloading any missed articles. ""
