Collaborations

NASA - Johnson Space Center

A leading threat to astronaut health is calcification during and after
space flight. Nanobac is pioneering effective ways of diagnosing and
preventing this condition. Through a Space Act Agreement with NASA's
Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston Texas, Nanobac Director of
Science, Neva Ciftcioglu, Ph.D., works on location at NASA JSC with a
multidisciplinary team of NASA researchers while having access to
basic laboratory services for nanobacteria science, including electron
microscopy, molecular biology and geology-mineralogy research
facilities.

University of California San Francisco (UCSF)

This multi-center collaboration involves researchers from Nanobac, the
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and NASA?s Johnson
Space Center, to study kidney stone formation. The multi-disciplinary
team applies the same type of instrumentation used to analyze
particles collected from space to analyze mineralized particles
collected from kidney patients.

Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research

A collaborative agreement with Mayo focuses on the prevalence and
treatment of CNPs in specific disease populations. Mayo uses
diagnostic kits developed by Nanobac to evaluate the presence of CNPs
in patients.

Iowa State University

Nanobac works with the Department of Geological and Atmospheric
Sciences at Iowa State University to explore novel methods for
detecting CNP associated analytes.

Rice University

Research into the protein structure of CNPs is being carried out by
Rice University, NASA, and Nanobac. Rice is a leading nanotechnology
research center.

Miami Heart Center

This collaborative study evaluated the presence of nanobacterial
antigens and antibodies in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization
and coronary artery angioplasty intervention. CNPs have been isolated
and cultured from atherosclerotic plaque and have the unique capacity
to cause calcification and inflammation in tissues.
