Historically this is sound advice - and may even be sound for the years ahead. However, the pog could also be viewed as a reciprocal to the value of the $US. I expect to see the $US much lower after 5 years or so than it is now - and the pog, consequently, will reflect this and be much higher. Nevertheless, it is also possible that a Euro denominated government bond will outperform gold over the same period (including interest income received).
